Set on the point of a peninsula, 200 yards from the golden sands of Murlough beach, Murlough House is nestled away in the 500 acres of the Murlough Bay Nature Reserve managed by the National Trust.

Situated on the edge of the picturesque ancient village of Dundrum with its famous Norman castle, and only 4 miles from the seaside resort of Newcastle, where the beautiful Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea, the situation is unique, and offers something here for everyone.

The house sits in 3 acres of gardens and is the perfect place to appreciate the wonders of God’s creation while enjoying the peace and tranquility it offers. Come and gaze on His beauty and be lost in wonder, adoration and praise.

  • A really wonderful welcome and fantastic hospitality for our event at Murlough House. Our hosts really went the extra mile for us and our rooms were absolutely beautiful. This is a stunning house in an amazing location, but the spirit in which we were cared for made our gathering perfect. Thank you so much!

  • Murlough House is one of our favourite places. A wonderful venue for times of refreshment. We love the beautiful location, the warm welcome, the peace and tranquility, the great food, and the very comfortable rooms. It is a place set apart.

  • It is an ideal location for a Retreat for those wanting to reflect on God’s purposes & directions for their lives. It is very much a place to be motivated to keep going in our journey with the Lord. We certainly recommend Murlough House to everybody.

  • I spent one night on an individual retreat at Murlough House and had a wonderful time. I arrived in late afternoon and walked along the beach towards Newcastle. The sun was setting over the mountains and there was a beautiful rainbow pointing towards the location of Murlough House. Next morning, I got up early, walked to the beach and watched the sunrise over keel point, accompanied by the cries of a nearby seal colony. I then wandered back through Murlough Nature reserve, picking blackberries and enjoying the beauty of the heather in bloom. Breakfast was delicious. I loved the oat-milk porridge, fresh berries and seeds. All staff are so warm, friendly and welcoming. My bedroom (Rathlin) was comfortable, clean and spacious. The house itself is full of character and there are lots of places, both indoors and outdoors, for quiet prayer, worship and contemplation. It certainly is ‘a place apart.’ I can’t wait to be back again! Karen Barkley

  • A Perfect Retreat for Couples at Murlough House Murlough House is an absolute gem—one of those rare places where you just feel at home straight away. As church leaders, my husband and I have stayed there multiple times, and each visit has been nothing short of a blessing. They are brilliant hosts—so welcoming and kind, and nothing is ever a hassle for them. The house itself is lovely, full of character, and there’s plenty of space to relax and do your own thing. There are lots of very well thought out and intentional spaces to reflect, pray, or simply enjoy the stillness. So, whether you want time on your own or with others, it’s perfect for both. The food is fantastic. One of its greatest treasures is its location—just a two-minute walk from the stunning Murlough Beach. If you need a break from the busyness of life, I honestly couldn’t recommend Murlough House enough. It is a place of rest, renewal, and deep peace.

  • Over the years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to stay at Murlough House for both staff retreats and personal retreats. Each visit has been an incredible blessing. The accommodation and surroundings are not only beautiful and scenic, but there is also a deep sense of peace and rest the moment you step inside. It is the perfect place for reflection, restoration, and spending time with God. Every time I have stayed, I have left feeling refreshed and encouraged. The entire staff are amazing—they go above and beyond to ensure your time at Murlough House is special and purposeful. Whether you're looking for a personal retreat or a team getaway, this is the ideal location to step away, reconnect, and be renewed.

  • Just back from a men’s retreat at Murlough House. There were 17 guys there for 4 days and it was a super venue. Firstly, I’d like to say a big thank you to the staff, they made us feel so welcome, their kindness and generosity was very much appreciated, nothing was too much trouble for them, they, along with the ambience of the venue made it such a quiet and peaceful weekend, a place to unwind from the hassles of daily life. The location is both beautiful and tranquil, a gift to have such a place in Northern Ireland. It's just a short walk to Murlough beach which leads all the way to Newcastle beach and town. We saw a pod of seals basking nearby and you have the views of the Mourne mountains, all just stunning. As for the venue, it’s a home from home. There are lots of places within the grounds to take time out to get away from it all, including the newly built garden chapel, a highlight for me. There are also various walks through the extensive gardens and surrounding forest. The house, I’d best describe it as an elegant country home. The decor, the pictures, the various sitting rooms, all conducive to contemplation, reflection and rest.. The food was excellent, a shout out to the cooks and staff, they fed us well! We did not go hungry and my favourite dish was the chicken and broccoli bake. A unique feature is the coffee shop, Imbibe, which was kindly opened up for us. It's the type you would find down the front in Newcastle, super spot, great coffee and excellent tray bakes, a place to relax in the afternoons. As for the accommodation, lots of bedrooms in a variety of sizes, from a room that sleeps two, up to five or more. Some bedrooms have their own en-suites though there are plenty of recently refurbished separate bathrooms, which helped greatly as we were all on the same timetable. Also a bedroom down stairs if required. As for our retreat, it was based on the Wild at Heart material, it’s a 3/4 days with various seminars on Jesus and the heart of a man. The venue was so well suited, the comfort of the house, the outdoor space and the walks etc, all so good to get time away and look after our hearts. Our group has been on various trips/retreats and every so often we come across a location that we call a "thin place", we picked that up from visiting the island of Iona off the west coast of Scotland. After our weekend at Murlough House it’s definitely a thin place, a place where heaven and earth overlap, where you can sense the presence of God, so beautiful! Wild at Heart Retreat
